Participant Observer

Special Announcements:

Thanks to everyone who attended the One Book One San Diego event by the Worldview Project and the San Diego Diplomacy Council! It was a very interesting and perspective-altering discussion about disability rights around the globe and here at home. A huge thanks to our guest speakers, Alex Montoya and Jessica Rodriguez Garcia, for their insights and wisdom regarding why disability rights are fundamental human rights.

We are happy to report that two organizations, the Digital Gym of the Media Arts Center and the Chinese Historical Museum, have both re-opened! We are learning to live with Covid; we still shouldn't throw caution to the wind, but should instead continue to do what's smart, sensible and safe from a health perspective.

This month we have a brand new recipe for you to try out. With very few and easy-to-obtain ingredients, Flemish Waterzooi tastes simply awesome!

Our book of the month, People from My Neighborhood is a collection of short stories from acclaimed Japanese author Hiromi Kawakami. The Chicago Review of Books had this to say "If months of lockdown has you yearning to find the magic in the everyday again, Kawakami’s book has arrived just in time."

Our International Music of the Month selection is: Raiz by El Septeto Santiaguero is bursting with tunes that cover the wide diversity of Cuban music styles.

Recipe of the Month

Flemish Waterzooi

The Participant Observer Recipe of the Month is Flemish Waterzooi: a creamy chicken soup/stew that is guaranteed to warm your soul on chilly days. When you look at the ingredients for Waterzooi, it doesn't seem like this is a very exciting dish. However, we were absolutely surpised by how delicious it is. It's a keeper!
